Lives and works in Cary, NC

b. 1971, Rockville Center, NY

Tricia Sauls is a contemporary still-life painter based in Cary, North Carolina, creating original works that bring fresh attention to familiar subjects.

Her paintings explore flowers, fruit, and everyday objects through an individual approach to color, composition, and visual relationships. Often concentrating on a single subject or carefully arranged group, her work reveals the character and subtle complexity of ordinary things.

Working across intimate small-scale paintings and larger compositions, Sauls explores how color, placement, and the space surrounding an object influence its presence. The resulting paintings combine close observation with an expressive approach to familiar forms.

She studied in the art program at LaGrange College in Georgia. Her continuing practice focuses on original still-life paintings that invite viewers to reconsider subjects encountered in everyday life.

Artist Statement

My paintings begin with familiar subjects—flowers, fruit, and objects that are part of everyday life. I enjoy looking at them outside their usual context, where their colors, shapes, and relationships can take on new importance.

I'm interested in how the placement of an object changes the way we see it. The distance between forms, the colors around them, and the surrounding space all influence the mood of a composition.

Still life gives me room to be both observant and playful. A familiar object can feel calm, peculiar, or unexpectedly expressive when it becomes the focus of a painting.

I hope the work encourages people to slow down and look again at things they might otherwise pass by.
